The folks over at the How-To Geek have written a great article on how to do this, it’s pretty long, and if you are switching, or need to get mail out of one into the other, it’s a great read.
One of my favorite desktop twitter apps TweetDeck has released their iPhone version, and it will definately get a spot on my home screen, it’s a good iPhone twitter app. The best new feature in both apps is the ability to sync colums across platforms. You can download TweetDeck for your computer and the iPhone now.

Hulu surprised us all a couple weeks ago by dropping a desktop application into the mix. The desktop app works on Windows and Mac, and moves the content from the browser to the desktop via a Hulu approved app.
Hulu desktop is easy to use right away, however if you have a Hulu account with prefrences and subscriptions set up, it’s easy to log in and access all your personal stuff.
The application is very easy to use and let’s you browse by movies, TV, and all the other selections the website lets you. It also doesn’t suck the CPU and memory as bad as Joost for the desktop did, and this is a good direction for the Hulu folks, but I still believe they need to move towards letting people watch their content on the TV, but this is definately a step in the right direction. If you are a Hulu user, I would definately recommend you check this out.
Hulu desktop is part of the Hulu Labs offering, which will offer a peek at the things the Hulu developers are working on. You can grab the app from the Hulu Labs Webste.

In Windows Vista/XP have you ever wanted to reorganize your taskbar items? You can’t just drag them around like you can in Windows 7, so enter a nifty little program called Taskbar Shuffle. This app lets you reorder your taskbar buttons by drag and drop, you can also do the same thing with your tray icons. There are a lot more options, and if you are constantly thinking “I wish I could make the taskbar work for me” then give Taskbar Shuffle a try.

In an effort to link up my outlook contacts to Facebook, I have been searching for an app to sync photos and birthday info. There are a couple good ones for the iPhone, but I haven’t really found a good PC client that will handle that until I found Fonebook.
Fonebook will transfer contacts from Facebook to Outlook and if you don’t have the contact in Outlook, you can add it. One of the limitations is that it doesn’t add email or phone numbers due to a limitation in Facebook, but those aren’t that hard to add manually. All in all, Fonebook is a great windows application, and I would recommend you download and try it today.

How do you have your desktop arranged on your computer? Me personally, I like a fairly clean desktop, so I don’t have many icons on it. I am running Windows 7 beta, so the only icons I have on my desktop now are the trash and two links to remote desktops, along with the Weather Gadget. Here is a screen shot.
I like a minimal desktop and I have all my most used programs pinned to the taskbar, and my other programs I use are pinned to the start menu. There are people out there who like to customize even more, so here are a few examples from posts on Lifehacker’s Featured Desktop Series that I liked the most.
The Compartmentalized Desktop
This is a desktop done by Lifehacker reader Kseve, see his full desktop photos on his Flickr set.
If you want to get a desktop like this read the full Lifehacker Post.
The Heavenly Desktop
I like this one as well, see how it’s done here.
There are quite a few more on Lifehacker so read on and see what you like and don’t and post your screenshot links of your desktops in the comments.

I recently read an article on Lifehacker about a plugin for Outlook called Xobni (inbox backwards). This plugin is something that should be installed on all pc’s running outlook. The features include email analytics, useful contact cards, fast search, threaded conversations and a lot more. I really can’t explain it, but check out this video…
Now go sign up for the beta and hope you get an invite. I have a couple invites left, but It’s worth the wait if you can’t download it right away.
Not a demo, not a timed trial, but fully free. FTA: “Whether Microsoft virtualization technology is an important component of your existing infrastructure or you’re just a Virtual PC enthusiast, you can now download Virtual PC 2004 Service Pack 1 absolutely free.”
Thousands of apps are listed here, with a handy legend that
tells you what’s needed and what’s not: for instance, “Y” for leave it
alone, “U” for user’s choice, “X” for need to get rid of it, etc. Word
to the wise, from the site: “It is assumed that users are familiar with
the operating system they are using and comfortable with making the
suggested changes.”
