Wired Frame iPhone App Review

Category : iPhone, Software

519528 As I was looking through the app store on my iPhone the other night, I saw an app called Wired Frame (iTunes Link). I looked at the features and what it did, and was kind of skeptical about getting it, then after reading the reviews, which were very mixed, I decided to take the plunge and make the purchase. I don’t regret it at all.

When you launch the app, you get a great interface, which is basically the time,519528_2 the date and weather, a photo and down at the bottom you have a scrolling feed. What makes this app great is that you can go into the settings and add your twitter feed, any rss feed you want to show up at the bottom, you can change the flickr settings to show only photos from the person you want, or just leave it on the default settings which show some very interesting photos. Another thing I like is that you can save any photo you want to your phone, which is a plus if you want to use a photo as your wallpaper. You can change the fonts, the clock settings, put the weather info in your area, and the list goes on.

The only limitations I find on this app is that I wish you could have it set as the default lock screen, but due to the API limitations that’s not possible. You can have it set to not shut off the phone but I found that my iPhone heated up when I did that, so I have it set to lock after 2 hours. It’s a great app that I run when I have the phone setting in the dock, and I would recommend that you grab this app while it’s $.99 in the app store, because if they continue working on it, I believe that it will get much better as time goes on. Here are a few more screen shots from the developers site.

*They just released an update last night, and this app has gotten a lot better. Keep up the good work, and if you don’t yet have this app, then get it while it’s on sale.

beamME CV Review

Category : iPhone, Software

Let me set a scene for you, you’re out at a job fair or a conference in your area of work, you talk to someone who asks you to send them a copy of your resume or CV, you get their email address and contact info, then when you get back to your computer, if you remember, you send them a copy of your resume. It could’ve been hours between the time you met that person and then sent the resume, and by that time, the person you sent it too might not remember exactly who you were. Here comes another great app from the makers of beamME/beamME Pro called beamME CV.

403134_2

This is one of the greatest apps to come along in awhile. The limits of the iPhone mean you can’t store your resume on the phone and then attach it to an email and send it, this app makes it super simple to do that, all you have to do is upload your resume to your account and you’re ready to start sending it out.

When you first start using the app, you need to tell it your email address, then you will be sent a private link that will allow you to upload your resume, once that is done you are ready to go, all you have to do is enter the email address or phone number of the recipient and it sends it right away. You can also add a personalized note to the sender, and it will also map the location. I would highly recommend you buy this app if you are in the place where you have to send out your resume or CV at the drop of a hat, but even if you don’t this is a must have app for the iPhone. Also make sure to follow them on twitter @beamMEpro because they sometimes give away a copy of the app, in the meantime, take a look at some screenshots below.

beamME/beamME pro for iPhone

Category : iPhone, Software

I have been asked numerous times at conferences or some other type of event if I had a business card. I don’t, and that seems to be a bad thing in this day and age. Then after I got my first iPhone and when the 2.0 software was released and the apps started flowing, I was on the lookout for an app that would allow me to send my virtual business card. I found a couple apps that I liked but weren’t very handy, then I ran across beamME, a free app that let me send my personal vcard to an email address or phone number of my choice.

The free version of beamME lets you send your personal vcard to anyone, that includes, iPhones, Blackberries, Android, Palm and Windows Mobile, it works with the built in address book on your phone, and you can customize the message that is sent with the card. I also like the fact that you can go to the website and edit your card online as well. Here are a couple screenshots of the free version.

After the success of the free version they decided that people wanted a few more features, so they decided to make a pro version of the beamME software. The pro version adds a lot of great new features that I love. The biggest thing is that you can send any contact in your address book to anyone else. The biggest example being that I was asked by a mutual friend to send the contact info for another friend who moved away. I said sure, and a minute later he had the new contact info in his email and on his phone. Another great feature is that you can tag the contact with the place that you met using the iPhone’s geo-location service. It also will show your complete beamME history, so you can see who you sent your contact info to. These are both great apps for your phone, and I suggest you give the free version a try, and if you find it as useful as I do, then please support the developers by buying the pro version. Please stay tuned as sometime in the near future I will be talking to the CEO of the company, and will post the interview on the site. Here are some screenshots of the pro version.

What is Wakoopa?

Category : Web/Tech

I have been asked more than a few times, why do applications and other webapps show up in my friendfeed, facebook and twitter timelines? It’s because I use a service called Wakoopa. Now the question is, what is Wakoopa, and why would I want it known to everyone what applications I use.

First off, let’s learn about what Wakoopa is, and why it exists. On their homepage, they have four things prominently posted in the middle of their page.

  1. Track your apps
  2. Discover new software
  3. Share what you use
  4. Get updated by friends

An App I Can’t Stop Using

Category : iPhone, Software

I recently heard Alex Lindsay on Mac Break Weekly mention an app he was using on a flight. This little app is called Fieldrunners (iTunes Link) and it’s the most addictive game on the iPhone platform. In fact, the other night when I was playing, my phone shut itself off because I had drained the battery, then I realized I had been playing it for over 2 hours. Fieldrunners is a tower defense game, that puts you in charge of building various towers to stop the enemy from getting to the exit. If you want a fun and challenging game, get this one, as you won’t regret it. It’s currently on sale for $2.99, but I would still purchase it at the full price of $4.99.

Click on the Fieldrunners logo to go to the iTunes store to purchase the game. Also take a look at the gallery of screenshots below and also here is the video review from AppVee.com.
